What is it and how to protect a utility model

Utility model – concerns the shape, structure or combination of an item with the so-called a durable form (see point 2), whose essential features are not visible only to the naked eye (they require showing its internal structure), and it must meet the following conditions:

world novelty – the solution cannot be known until the date of its notification to the Office – it cannot be made public, i.e. published on websites, shown at fairs, sold, etc. (foreign publications before the date of notification also affect the lack of novelty!)
solution of a technical nature – it must concern the shape, structure or assembly of a durable object, which means that only the finished product is protected, and not: the method, technology, algorithms, composition (recipe) or method of producing e.g. ointments, solutions, etc. . Utility models may be, for example: various types of devices, machines and mechanisms (e.g. gears), monitors, photovoltaic panels and others

Attention! Not all countries grant protection for utility models (this is due to their legal regulations – not everywhere there is a 'category’ of a utility model).
